Project templates

Description of the limitation and why it is relevant to address

I would like to make use of a customizable project template in the projects folder. The reason i think this would be beneficial is that a tailored project template could improve the structure/ workflow of a big multidisciplinary project.

Lets say there is an example project for a product which is fully digitized and subdivided into multiple applications in the Viktor project environment. Also, the applications are dependend on each other (e.g. one application provides input for the next application). This project contains multiple design stages and sometimes a specific order of design steps that need to be undertaken.

Right now there is no option available that gives or restricts the access to certain apps. Basically, each application can be accessed simultaneously at each given moment, which could decrease the structure/ overview of the entire design and/or causes additional work for fellow colleagues because the modification impacts the results of the coupled application.

Submitter proposed design

  • The option to implement a customizable project template, in which access/ restriction and/or a certain workflow to applications can be managed and implemented, based on the design stage.

Current workarounds

None

Hi @Luca ,

Thanks for this interesting request. I have wondered whether there were cases where organisations create interdependent apps, as this is indeed an issue of you use the one app without also adding the other. I guess this could be partially resolved with good error message handling. Do you see any limitations in the use of only error messages?

Hi @Luca

I’m currently exploring ways to enhance Projects within the VIKTOR platform, and your insights would be incredibly valuable. Understanding your vision for a project template in the projects folder is key to this improvement.

Would you be available for a 30-minute Teams call? During our discussion, I’d love to delve into:

  • Your current project setup
  • Your ideal setup for a project template
  • Essential elements you believe should be included
  • An overview of your current app structures
  • How app workflows are managed within your organization

Your perspective will greatly contribute to making projects more effective and user-friendly.

Looking forward to our conversation!

hi @mslootweg. Error message handling is definitely a part of the feature, but it wont streamline the workorder completely. Currently we are not sure how many apps will be made for our use case/ what the exact interaction will be between apps. However I can see that certain design steps are always taken before another design step (e.g. from a basic calculation to a more detailed calculaiton). For user friendliness i can imagine it would be a nice feature to streamline the order in which apps become available, coupled to the design stage the project is in/ the progress of the other calculations.

hi @tvantil its great to hear you are working on this. I can tell you more about the vision we have for a project template, so a 30 minute meeting is fine. I have to say, we are still at the start of this process, so I can not give you all the full details for your bullet points.

Hi Remi, I’ve sent you a DM so that we can arrange a call
