Develop page update

Hi all,

We’ve been simplifying the Develop page to make building VIKTOR apps more straightforward. Here’s what’s changed and where we’re heading.

What’s new:

  • Create new apps directly from the CLI when developing locally — no more jumping back to the platform to create an app before continuing locally. You can now create an app from your own environment in a single command, with or without our boilerplate.

  • Simpler local installation flow in the UI — the old “level-up” block is gone. In its place, a simple “Develop apps in your local IDE” button on the develop page kicks off the installation flow when you want it.

  • A cleaner Develop page — we removed features that have been superseded by the app builder (showcase templates, create-from-template, create-from-excel, visual builder). The app builder covers these flows more flexibly.

Where we’re heading next:

  • Develop page becomes the home for managing your own apps. Today, “My apps” lives in the app store, which doubles as both a place to explore apps and to manage your own — and users have told us that’s confusing. We’re moving “My apps” onto the develop page so there’s one clear place to manage what you’re building, while the app store stays focused on discovery.

The bigger picture:

We’re tightening up the interface so each surface has a clear job: the homepage helps you get started and pick up where you left off, the develop page is for building and managing your apps, and the app store is for discovering apps. Less clutter, fewer detours.

We’d love to hear from you:

  • Is creating apps from the CLI working well for your local dev workflow?

  • Is the local installation flow easy to find when you need it?

  • Anything you miss from the old develop page?

Drop your thoughts below — your feedback shapes where we take this next.
